NEW DATE FOR 2010

SATURDAY, JULY 17

CAR CLUB PADDOCK

Each year during the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance, hundreds of car enthusiasts from all around the state and region join the shine ‘n show 'n fellowship in the Paddock Area of the Concours, a specially-designated parking area in close proximity to the juried automobiles.

Its popularity has grown so much that in 2010 we will require clubs to make a reservation for a spot in the Paddock!

The Paddock Challenge attracts Alfa Romeos, Audis, British Sterlings, Cobras, Corvettes, Ferraris, Hot Rods, Maseratis, Miatas,  Mini-Coopers, Model A, Mustangs, Porsches and many others.

PADDOCK CHALLENGE
Chairman Tom Jones gives the Bluegrass Region Porsche club a big THUMBS UP as winners of the Paddock Challenge trophy for 2009 with an astounding contribution of $5,656!

Since the second Concours, Paddock participants have supported the charitable aspect of the Concours by participating in the Paddock Challenge. The Challenge allows clubs to vie for the honor of having their name placed on a trophy and plaque and to contribute to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. The trophy and plaque recognizing each year’s winning car club is displayed throughout the year at the Children’s Hospital.

Both the Paddock and the Challenge have grown significantly, increasing from 135 cars in 2004 to more than 500 in 2009. During this time, Challenge has generated over $30,000 for the Children’s Hospital.

Participating clubs are among the region’s largest car clubs and a friendly rivalry for the Total Amount Trophy has become a tradition between the Bluegrass Corvette Club and the Porsche Club of America, Bluegrass Region. It started in 2006 when the Corvettes presented 200 beautiful Corvettes along the boulevard leading to the Keene Barn.  Being that year’s marque, the local club was determined to win the coveted Paddock Challenge trophy—and they did!

Amid much smack talking between the Corvette Club and the Porsche Club in 2007, it became apparent that the Porsche owners were after the trophy—and they succeeded contributing just over $2,300 toward the total amount of $6,700, winning the Challenge in 2007. Not to be out done, however, the Corvettes were back again in 2008, taking home the Challenge trophy by contributing $4,495 toward the $10,656 total. Keeping with tradition, the Porsches were ready in 2009, taking home the Challenge with a total contribution of $5,656, more than half of that year’s total of $8,946.

The Challenge recognizes the club donating the highest total amount and the club donating the highest amount per car, giving both large and small clubs a chance at winning.  In 2008, we added a second trophy to the Paddock Challenge featuring the car club with the highest “per car” contribution. The Sterling British Motoring Society won the honor both years, contributing more than $100 per car each year.
